What happened

On January 27, 2026, the Plex media server was briefly unavailable due to a software update issue. The service was restored within approximately 15 minutes.

Impact

The Plex server was inaccessible during this window. No active streaming sessions were interrupted.

Cause

A routine software update pulled an incompatible version of the Plex server software from the upstream provider. This was an issue with the software publisher's release process, not the homelab infrastructure.

Resolution

I reverted to the previous working version and restored service.

Prevention

I've pinned the Plex software to a specific tested version rather than automatically pulling the latest release. Future updates will be validated before deployment.
